World Federation of Surgical Oncology Societies

Constitution, rules and regulations

  • Article 1

The World Federation of Surgical Oncology Societies (hereafter called “WFSOS”) intents to develop and promote exchange of knowledge in surgical aspects in management of malignant  tumours in order  to stimulate and facilitate the highest standards of research, education and training, disease prevention, exchange of knowledge  and patient care.

  • Article 2

The WFSOS is a multidisciplinary body and includes:

  • Surgical oncologists
  • Clinical oncologists
  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiologists and other imaging specialists
  • Pathologist
  • Basic scientists
  • Other health professionals involved in management of patients with malignant tumours(
  • Patients and patient’s organisations
  • Article 3

The WFSOS unites:

  • Individual persons
  • National professional organisations
  • Multi-national professional societies

Members of WFSOS must be oriented towards worldwide cancer research, training and treatment with emphases on surgical oncology. The Board scrutinises and approves the membership applications

  • Article 4

The WFSOS is governed by a Board, consisting of:

  • President,
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Director of WFSOS School

The President is elected for 2 years and may be re-elected.

All work done by Members of Board is voluntary without any financial re-numeration.

Elections are organised every 2 years during the General Assembly via a vote by all members in good standing.

 A Nominating Committee consisting of the president, the secretary, and two members outside the board elected by the General Assembly will prepare the elections.

 At the end of his/her term, the President gets a Past-President non-voting post for 2 years to insure the continuity of the WFSOS.

  • Article 5

An Annual Conference of WFSOS will be organised regularly.

The Board must ensure a fair geographic rotation.

The organising Society is responsible as regards the financing of the Annual Conference of WFSOS.

  • Article 6

The Treasurer must annually present a financial report to Board for consideration and approval.

The approved report will be made available to each member society or group.

A global report will be presented annually.

  • Article 7

The secretariat of the WFSOS will communicate with Members via the secretariat of Member Societies, Associated Study Groups and Patient’s Organisations or directly with Individual Members.

  • Article 8

The Society is registered in the UK as an international non-profit association under English law.

  • Article 9

Membership dues for the period until the next General Meeting, at which time new dues will be set upon approval.

  • Article 10

Individual membership is offered voluntary pending an membership fee of 50 Euros (excluding money transfer and exchange) paid directly to the WFSOS Treasurer each year.

In case of existing national surgical oncology societies the society will become a society member voluntary pending a 3 Euros per capita registration fee (excluding money transfer and exchange) paid each year by the society to the WFSOS Treasurer.

National or international study groups may be associated members as a whole, on a voluntary basis with a voluntary financial contribution to the Treasurer of WFSOS.

Patient’s organisations may be members of WFSOS. There is no registration or membership fee for these organisations.

  • Article 11

The President and Treasurer are jointly responsible for any payments made from the WFSOS bank account.

About us

The WFSOS was established in 1992 as the non-commercial non-governmental organization consisting of 35 national organizations dealing with:

  • -       applying effective collective measures against the oncological diseases all over the world;
  • -       developing friendly relations among specialists of different countries on the basis of the only one professional sphere;
  • -       carrying out international cooperation;
  • -       promoting consolidation of surgeons-oncologists efforts in achieving common aims.
